I acknowledge that I live and work on the ancestral and unceded territories of the Lekwungen-speaking peoples, including the Son headingghees and Esquimalt Nations, and respectfully recognize their ongoing connection to this land.
I have lived and worked in so-called British Columbia my entire life. The places where I have made my home, built my life, and practiced as an artist are Indigenous territories, with histories and living cultures that long predate my presence here.
Hello, I’m Jason Young (he/him)
(b. 1976) a queer, neurodivergent, and disabled interdisciplinary artist working across sound, image, and embodied experimentation to investigate identity, perception, memory, and connection.
For the past decade, my practice has explored the intersections between painting and drawing, art and psychology, self and other. In recent years, I have begun to question the forms and processes that have shaped my work, moving beyond painting and drawing into sound, image, video, text, and digital media. This shift has opened up a more interdisciplinary approach in which ideas can develop through experimentation, rather than being confined to a particular medium or process.
